The Risa 1 farm (Samuel), lying between the Risa 2 farm (west) and the
Risa 3 farm (east), is slightly bigger than the other two Risa farms. Each about
20 acres of cultivated land, going from the hillside in south and down to the
sea. There is no family connection between Risa 1 and Risa 2/3.
This is a painted picture from the Risa farms on Rennesøy, ab. 1920
(?), which was hanging in LM (brother of Kornelius) livingrom in Henley Falls.
Risa 2 farm is in front, then the Risa 1 farm. House no. 4 is the Risa 3 farm.
House no. 3 was a small fisherman place. The old white stone church from 1100
is east in the background.
If you want to see new picture of this area, you go into Google Maps on
Internet (maps.google.com) for Rennesøy. You look up Sørbøveien and Risa in
Street View. Risa 2 is Sørbøveien 610, and Risa 3 is Sørbøveien 575. Risa 4
where I was born, is Sørbøveien 641.
Both families on the Risa 2 and Risa 3 farms have relations back to
Austbø on Rennesøy. Kristen Kristenson grandfather to Kornelius (see Chapt. 3.,
about Risa 2), b. 1812, and sister Berta Haugvaldstad, b. 1809, grandmother of
Marta Varaberg (see Chapt. 4., about Risa 3) are born on Austbø. Austbø 1 is a
farm on Vikevåg (Rennesøy), ab. 4 miles east of Risa.
In 1907 the no. 3 son, Kornelius, on the Risa 2 farm married the oldest
daughter, Gurina, on the Risa 3 farm. Both of them were teachers. Kornelius
started as teacher in Suldal in 1898, and stayed at Førland in Suldal until he
retired in 1942. Gurina started in 1900 as a private teacher at the minister of
religion (on Rennesøy), and later professor Johan Edvard Sverdrup (with 7
famous children), before she married. In Suldal they gave birth to a big family,
our Risa family.
On 12.6.1993 we had the first family reunion in Stavanger with 130
participants. Connected to this reunion, Lisabet had written down all family
trees. Later we have had Cousin reunion in Suldal 02.06.2007, and on Rennesøy
15.06.2013. The family trees with old picture and histories have been updated
by Lisabet, to a book in Norwegian of 54 pages ("Kornelius og Gurina
Risa, Slektsbakgrunn, Barn, Barnebarn,
Oldebarn og Tippoldebarn, 2013"). An abstract of this (up to ab. 1970) is:
